The 'Zagatization' of this warm neighborhood 'Mom and Pop' bistro has stretched the capacity of its friendly waitstaff, but the standard of the preparation and quality of seasonal ingredients remains top-notch. Innovative offerings like the portobello mus hroom fritter appetizer have spawned inferior cut-rate imitators (up the street at Ajanta, for example), suggesting that local chefs come here on their day off to do research. Main menu entrees change every three weeks, but always arrive prepared with artistry and care. Homemade desserts are difficult to ignore but not hard to finish. Reservations are essential, but there's usually room for a few walk-ins in the cramped front foyer
